About Us

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our Philosophy — Inspiring Creativity, Confidence & Lifelong Growth

At The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Academy (TBPAA), we believe the performing arts are more than stages, costumes, and applause—they are powerful tools for nurturing the whole child. Through dance, acting, music, and performance, our students discover the courage to express themselves, connect deeply with others, and step more boldly into who they truly are.

We are guided by the inspiring words of A. Horin:

“Performing Arts Education is not about creating future artists. It’s about enabling dream-making to happen in all students.”
— A. Horin, 2008

Our mission is not simply artistic excellence—it’s empowering every student to grow with confidence, compassion, curiosity, and joy.

Rooted in Research, Driven by Impact

A growing body of research shows that participation in the performing arts is linked with positive outcomes in cognitive, emotional, and social development. Arts engagement strengthens focus, supports emotional resilience, and invites students to think deeply, solve problems, and communicate with clarity and empathy.

Dance, for example, builds body awareness, discipline, and critical-thinking skills, while promoting physical health and fitness. Movement encourages children to solve problems creatively and build confidence in their own physical expression.

Acting & Drama foster imagination, communication, and empathy. Working with scripts deepens reading comprehension and general knowledge, and improvisation ignites spontaneous self-expression and emotional courage.

Singing & Music help children explore emotion and pattern, enhancing memory, language development, and auditory skills. Engaging in music education has been associated with improved language processing and spatial-temporal reasoning—skills that support learning in many areas of life.

Beyond Academics — Preparing Hearts and Minds for Life

Arts participation encourages collaboration, persistence, and resilience—the same traits we value for success on stage and in life. Whether students are learning choreography, performing a monologue, or harmonizing in chorus, they are also learning to listen, adapt, and celebrate both individual creativity and collective achievement.

At TBPAA, the performing arts are more than classes—they are experiences that light the spark of lifelong learning, joy, and self-discovery.

WHY PERFORMANCE FIRST

At Tampa Bay Performing Arts Academy, performance is at the heart of everything we do—and we mean it. Our goal is to provide every member of our musical theater casts and Encore Performance Team with meaningful, consistent opportunities to be on stage.

We believe students learn best when they are given the chance to apply their skills in front of a live audience. Our instructors understand how essential it is to bridge the gap between rehearsal and performance—because true growth happens when preparation meets the spotlight. Each live performance strengthens confidence, and through both successes and learning moments, students develop resilience and lasting self-esteem.

Whether a student is stepping on stage for the very first time or bringing years of experience with them, our mission remains the same: to support growth, celebrate progress, and give every performer the opportunity to shine and share their talent.

TBPAA Mission Statement

Tampa Bay Performing Arts Academy’s mission is to provide and develop an educational community outreach program, giving our students the opportunity to cultivate and expand upon their technical performance and  analytical skills within the creative atmosphere of the performing arts.

By placing a strong emphasis upon the foundations of a liberal arts education as well as each individual’s development of rational thought, critical thinking, and communication skills we hope to foster an experience that will not only enrich the lives of each participant, but serve as a building block to encourage the growth of essential life skills such as discipline, social skills, self-esteem, maturity, and responsibility.

In addition, we seek to fashion a program that will at all times uphold and promote family and community values, bringing together people of all ages to enjoy the incredible experience of the arts.
